Arame
A matéria-prima básica do cabo de aço é o arame, que é obtido por um processo de trefilação, no qual o fio-máquina é esticado por uma matriz, resultando em um arame de diâmetro menor.
Cabo de aço
É composto por fios de aço torcidos em forma de hélice, formando uma estrutura resistente e flexível. Os cabos de aço podem ter diferentes acabamentos, como alma de fibra ou alma de aço, e podem ser galvanizados ou revestidos com PVC ou Nylon.
A adequação do cabo de aço para uma aplicação depende de diversos fatores, como o projeto, tamanho, torções e outras características. A espessura dos arames do cabo de aço também é um fator importante, pois arames mais grossos tornam o cabo mais rígido, mas mais resistente a desgastes, enquanto arames mais finos tornam o cabo mais flexível.
Existem diferentes tipos de cabos de aço, como o cabo de aço galvanizado, que é feito a partir de arames cobertos com zinco, e o cabo de aço torção lang, que é mais resistente a abrasão, mas mais sujeito a distorções e deformações.
